Probably you heard about the affect of music in your prenatal class. I have a very useful experience about how you can make music a part of your child’s life.
I love music myself, I have to listen to music almost daily. Because I used to play piano, I love classics, specialty Mozart. When I was pregnant with my son I used to listen to classical music, I had a small headphone and used to put it on my belly so he could listen well. The music would calm him. At his birth something unexpected happened.
I forgot my music for labor, my mom was with us too. When I was in pain my mom started singing my childhood favorite lullaby which I hadn’t heard in ages. That was it; my son was born with in 4 hours and everything was fine. Then when he was around 3 months old I noticed that I when ever he is not feeling good I can easily calm him with that lullaby. He also loves classic music he was 18 months old when one day I was watching a classic concert on TV, and he was watching it; giving his complete attention as if he was watching his favorite show.
The same thing happened with my daughter. Although because she was born very quick I didn’t have time to sing her song during or before the birth, instead I took her in my arm with in her first 1 hour of birth and sang to her.
It worked perfectly, both of the children have their own songs and whenever they are uncomfortable I sing that song and they calm down almost immediately. This method worked in seconds for my son until he was 2 years old and is still working on my daughter (16 months old).
This is an inexpensive way for new moms to try on their own and use it in future to calm their children.
