Problems of weaning babies from bottle too soon
The biggest problem is that they have to be ready to let go of bottle. I weaned my son when he was 1 week short of 2years old. I told him I’ve lost the bottle and that was it, he asked for it on the first day only. We switched to cipy cups; it was a bit difficult to get him to have plain milk at first but after a while he was fine with any kind of milk.
I weaned my daughter I guess too soon. I meant to wait until she was two years old, but because of the BPA in baby bottles. I decided to be on the safe side and wean her from the bottle. She had problem letting go for about a week, after that she was fine. Then after almost a month, they were playing with a pacifier, (my son asks for pacifiers occasionally to play with and make his stuffed animals his babies that suck pacifier). That was it, she was hooked to pacifier she can’t live without it now. I guess she still needed to suck on something when bottle was out of picture pacifier would do it.
This wasn’t the first time that she tried pacifier. I have tried to give it to both of them when they were younger and they had played with pacifier before.
In a way, I’m happy she in on pacifier now, at least her mouth is busy and she can’t put other stuff in her mouth. However, I’m afraid to say that all I did to take her sucking habit during sleep is worthless now. I have to go through that tough time again to wean her from pacifier, but there is still time for that.
I hope this information helps other moms to wait for the right moment to take action in weanig their babies and avoid substituting one habit with another one.
Until later,
