Benefits of Blueberry in your toddler’s diet
July was called National Blueberry month in US. Very well put. I think they don’t advertise blueberries as they should. I was looking for healthy snacks and foods for my fussy eater 18 months old daughter. Who is fine with fruits and anything sweet but very difficult when it comes to food:) In my research, I came across to interesting information on blueberry in Wikipedia and many other blogs and websites that I had to share it.
Blueberry is native to North America. Native American’s used this fruit in their remedies in reducing morning sickness, headaches and coughs.
I had heard that blueberry is antitoxin and very good for you. But the of benefits of this so called Supper fruit is more than that. They contain a percentage of your toddler’s daily vitamin and mineral needs such as vitamin C, E, B vitamins, Calcium, Potassium, Iron, and they contain fiber. Composition of Blueberry . They are extremely famous for their antioxidant component. Research shows that apparently 1 cup blueberry a day can prevent cancer, high cholesterol, Alzheimer disease, heart problems, urinary tract infections and has good effects on brain, and neutralizes Metabolic problems.
We are concerned of the BPA in our kid’s cups and bottles. We’re wondering if we should spend arms and legs to go organic all the way or not. I think the easiest decision is to add blueberry to their daily diet. Organic or not they will benefit from blueberries now and in their future. They don’t have any health issues today but we can prevent them from having any in the future. Obviously, the 1 cup is for adults and a toddler can use 1/4 of cup daily.
Blueberry is a nice finger food for toddlers. Be careful with babies they may choke on big blueberries. I used to cut them for my daughter when she was younger. I serve blueberry as a side of cheese and nuts for snack, in salads , smoothies, mixed with yogurt, mixed with ice cream, in pancacke, in muffin,… (don’t panic if their bowl movement turn black, that’s blueberry:) )
I will have a series of recipe posts focusing on blueberry. How does your kids like blueberry?
Until later ,
