My toddler’s Potty training story

947419_our_precious_baby_girl.jpgPotty training my son (3.5 years now) was not that difficult. I was very patient with him and he was completely potty trained even at nights by the time he was 2 and 8 months old. He woke up last night in the middle of night and called me for pee pee :) That was my dream coming true?

My daughter is 19 months now. I have been telling her she has to go to potty and put her on potty from time to time since she was a year old. She also sees her brother going to potty.  I got more serious when I saw her interest in sitting on potty. Almost a month ago I saw her grumbling at the breakfast table and offered her to go potty. She accepted and surprisingly did her poo poo in potty. As I did with my son I praise her with blowing candle and some stickers. My son came in and I asked him to congratulate her and we both gave her high fives.

This was a very good experience for her and she tried potty a few times after that. I tried under wear with her couple of weeks ago. With her first accident, she got very disgusted and uneasy. The next time when she started peeing in herself, she was again disgusted but managed to hold herself to get to potty. After that, underwear was not fun for her anymore. She was very uneasy and very jumpy and cranky. It wasn’t time yet. Immediately I changed her to dipper and there you go, she was her happy self again.

I let her be potty free for a few days. Meaning I asked if she wanted to go but wasn’t persistent. I also reminded her that she has to go to potty to get a sticker when I was changing her.

Finally it happened today. At around noon I decided to ask her if she wanted to wear underwear instead of dipper. She chose underwear, I offered potty and she wend and did pee pee. We had two accidents so far one was a real accident and the other was my fault.

She can’t speak very well, so she came to me with complaint. I thought she was complaining about her brother and then she started peeing. I was quick to take her to potty and she managed to hold the rest to get to potty. The next ones were perfect I think she got a hang of it. I just have to work on our communication. I know now, if she pulls on my fingers or she starts complaining or just being unreasonably cranky, she might want to go potty. Each time I offered and she ran. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.

I think I nailed it, because she is physically ready. She can hold it and that is very important.

Until Later,
