Healthy snack ideas for toddlers

413093_fruit_platter_1.jpgI’m a kind of mother that don’t bug my kids to eat what and how I tell them to. I just provide them with good healthy choices and make the plate fun and colorful.

My daughter is a snack eater. She gets all her daily intake from her snacks. I had to come up with snack ideas that has all the nutrition she needs in a day.
My snack for them contains of four parts: 1-fruit and/or vegetable  2-some kind of carbohydrate 3-nuts and dried fruit 4-Milk or dairy product.

Some sample plates of snacks for us are:

  • Melon balls, strawberry, cheese cracker, walnuts and raisins, cup of milk
  • Cucumber, carrots, pita with cream cheese, almonds and dried cranberry, orange juice
  • Bananas, apple, blueberry, graham cookies, Macadamia nuts dried apricot, yogurt
  • Brockley, celery, veggie whole wheat crackers, peanuts, hard cheese.

These were only a few of ideas. I work the menu playfully, with taste and color. The only thing that I notice that if I have some sweet fruit, it’s better to have almost the same taste in other items too.
And the other way round I don’t put strawberries with brockley, they will have all the strawberry and no brockley.

As I said before my daughter eats snacks better than a meal. Sometimes to the brockley platter I add cutup schnitzels and yogurt instead of cheese and serve it as a meal.
I don’t force her to have something she doesn’t like but introduce it over and over. They say it takes kids tens times of trying something to get used it. I do that and combine many different foods to make her like her plate and get excited about her meal time.

I hope this has helped all other moms dealing with their toddler’s eating habit. You are not alone:)

Until later,
