Thank God for spring. This year we had the longest winter ever. And even after the beginning of spring our winter continues. We briefly had a few days of good weather and then back to rain, cold weather and snow!!! Yes snow in spring.
It was so bad that when we had a sunny day after a long time, my son (four year old now), came to me with excitement that: “mama the sun is out, it’s summer, I want the sun out all the time”
Luckily for the past four days we had mostly sunny days. I know this won’t last for long, we have rain in forecast for Wednesday, but even a few days here and there is hopeful.
Today was our perfect day in the past few months. We headed to the playground after pre-school. Playground was crowded obviously; everyone was out enjoying the sun while they could. We then visited my office (the one I have contract with to work from home). It was amazing that the children sat nicely in the waiting area until I was finished. It is amazing how a sunny day can change children’s mood (mine as well).
In the afternoon, after our Karate class we spent an hour in the yard, they played and watered the flowers (and themselvesJ) and I did some gardening. Then there was bath time, dinner, and sleep.
Right now the kids are fast asleep and I’m so rested unlike most night. This was one of the best and easiest days I had with them. They didn’t fight even once and were very polite. I think spending a long time outdoors and also me being in a good mood (for the past few weeks either the kids or I had some kind of a bug) had a big affect on them.
I wish for more days like this for everyone and us.
Until later
I’ve heard so many good stories about Children hospital. I had to go there once when my daughter was very young for her heart murmur. The staff was wonderful and very understanding with parents and children.
This is how it is supposed to be, it is a children’s hospital after all!!!! I have been told by my physician to go to children hospital without a doubt in case of emergency with my children. This is when we have a hospital within five-minute drive from home and children hospital is at least half an hour distance.
A friend of mine was there because of her son last night and her experience with the radiologist was awful. She said it was like gas chamber; there was a seat that they strap the child to it to do the x-ray. It is understandable that they have to keep the child staying still to do the x-ray but a little of good attitude and understanding is a good thing to have in children’s hospital.
Her experience with this young lady was that she took her sleeping toddler out of her hand removed the mother from the room and then started to strap the kid. She didn’t let the mother to wake the child, or explain what will happen, or even listen that he had done this procedure before and he is fine sitting still there is not need to strap him. As I mentioned before I’m not quite familiar with the religious culture of Canada yet. I do celebrate Christmas as a national holiday and our Norouz as Iranian New Year. But never Easter, I have to say I don’t know how it’s done family wise.
This year a friend of mine offered to go to an Easter Bunny Breakfast, organized by our neighborhood recreation center. It was wonderful and the kids loved it. There were lots of kids from age two to six; there was a craft table that they got to decorate their bags. There were coloring pages on the breakfast table to keep them busy until breakfast.
For breakfast they had pancake and sausage and juice. Then after breakfast it was time for the big show. Easter Bunny came with a basket full of chocolate; we followed him to the playground. It was so nice watching these little kids following Easter bunny with such joy and collecting Easter egg chocolates.
The good thing was that after a long time the weather was also nice and every one was in a good mood. At the end Easter bunny said goodbyes and shook hand with every kid.
This was such a good exercise for us, the kids and I got to know what Easter is about and I also enjoyed watching my kids enjoying their experience with other kids their age. It’s a wonderful thing that in multicultural cities like Vancouver, the city plans these kind of events to remind or familiarize community members of beautiful cultures like this.
I thought I don’t know these things because I wasn’t raised here, but today I saw many parents who were saying they don’t remember how Easter was done. They had memories of their young childhood but nothing more. So I’m not alone
The only downside of this event was that my son wants a bunny for pet now. Well we’ll see about that !!
Until later,
I missed my laptop a few weeks ago. Well the computer problem is not solved yet. It was supposed to be a simple problem with power supply and replaceable, turned out to be a major irreparable problem with the laptop itself. My new laptop is on its way but I know it will be a while before I can function effectively with the new one.
It took me a while to get used to using other computers shortly just to check in on my blog or some news. I miss my blog terribly, I started this as a hobby but I was getting seriously involved when the computer problem happened. I can’t wait to get back to my regular postings.
